The following descriptions give a brief definition of the services listed. This is not an all inclusive list, but is instead a sampling of the possibilities. The firm of Glenda Y. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT CONSULTING Tax Research: Perform research on topics as identified by client and make recommendation to client given the facts of the case. Prior research topics have included form 1099 reporting, supplemental wages, corporate sponsorship, and restricted donations. General Ledger Account Analysis: Provide detailed analysis of account activity and research variances and/or discrepancies in balances and individual transactions. Staff Training: Interview finance staff for hire and provide training and interim supervision. Cash Management and Short-Term Investment Analysis: Evaluate cash position and research short term investments. Budget Preparation: Prepare organization and grant budgets. Grant Compliance:Assist non-profit clients in establishing procedures to monitor grant compliance, reporting, and preparation for monitoring visits. Audit Liaison to Independent Audit Firm: Assist client in preparing for year end audit through coordination of audit process; preparation of various year end audit schedules requested by independent audit firm; assist audit and finance committee in auditor selection process as requested. Controller/CFO By The Hour: Review work performed by finance/accounting department staff, train personnel, coordinate monthly general ledger closing process, oversee preparation of monthly financial statements, implement internal control procedures, and perform various other tasks as identified by client. Software Evaluation: Review and evaluate various general ledger, fixed asset, donor, and human resource management software and make recommendation to management, then coordinate implementation. Coordination of Auditor Selection Process: Lead process of procuring bids, reviewing proposals, arrainging interviews, consulting references and aiding audit and finance committee in selecting an audit firm. Internal Control and Policy & Procedure Implementation: Assist in drafting controls, policies, and procedures for finance department and coordinating the implementation process. return to top PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT Superwoman Syndrome: Workshop is designed to address the needs of today's "Superwoman"; the one who tries to be all things to all people while sacrificing her true self. The workshop will address 'perfectionism'; stress; physical, psychological, and interpersonal symptoms of the syndrome; as well as prioritizing, taking control, and changing behavior. Developing Positive Self Esteem: Workshop is designed to increase participants' self awareness, change behavior which leads to negative self esteem, and provide solutions to overcome obstacles. Stress Management: Workshop is designed to identify causes, signs, and effects of stress, and provide practical tools and techniques for managing it. Effective Leadership Skills for Women: Workshop is designed to identify the characteristics of an effective leader, compare and contrast the styles of leadership, identify the current leadership style of the participants, and address the importance of time management, attitude, delegation, and effective teams as they relate to becoming an effective leader. Managing Your Money: Workshop is geared toward employees of corporate clients. It teaches a money management system to help stretch employees' paychecks, reduce debts, ease family conflicts related to finances, and find more money to save and/or invest. Basic Life Skills for Women: Workshop combines several courses into one, to address six key areas of a woman's life--balancing skills, aging parents, family life, organizing her life, managing money, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Course is ideal for women transitioning from shelters, single moms, baby boomers raising children while caring for aging parents, divorcees starting over, and others. Assertiveness Training: Workshop is designed to define assertiveness, compare and contrast assertiveness with aggressiveness, and discuss the importance of assertive behavior in the role of positive mental health. Emotional Wellness for Women: Workshop is designed to provide an in depth look at the participant's past and present behaviors and experiences to assess her emotional wellbeing and how to change these behaviors to learn to value herself and not to live as a victim of her circumstances or the actions of others. Setting Your Financial Records Straight: Seminar is designed to teach participants how to organize important documents and begin to protect their family and their assets. return to top PROFESSIONAL TRAINING Understanding the Value in Diversity and Multiculturalism: Workshop is designed to show the value in diversity and its positive effects on the bottom line of a company and the public image among the company's consumers; and to promote a positive work environment among employees that builds productive working relationships, by looking at ethnic, cultural, gender, age, and racial diversity issues. Effects of Sarbanes-Oxley Act on Nonprofit Organizations: Seminar outlines the impact of the Act on Nonprofit organizations and best practices. Grant Accountability Systems (Grants Mgt): Seminar instructs participants on best practices for managing the grant process including application, service delivery, reporting, and compliance. Preparing Budgets: Seminar instructs participants on how to prepare an organization budget and individual grant budgets. Financial Statements: Seminar teaches participants how to understand the accounting cycle that leads to generating financial statements of an organization, and then explains how to read and interpret a set of nonprofit financial statements. Building Your Board Of Directors: Workshop is designed to teach participants how to effectively create and manage a board of directors of a nonprofit organization. Participants will be introduced to the various roles and responsibilities, as well as suggestions for implementation and assessment. Topics cover determining mission and purpose, selecting a CEO, administering proper financial oversight, recruiting and orienting board members, and more. Financial Managment: Workshop is designed to introduce participants to the financial operations of a nonprofit organization including nonprofit accounting, taxation, and internal controls. Establishing A Volunteer Program: Workshop is designed to assist organizations seeking to establish a volunteer program within their nonprofit organization to manage and recognize the individuals that contribute their time. Is It Time For An Audit?: Workshop is designed to describe the purpose of an audit, the process of selecting a CPA firm to perform the audit, preparing the financial records for an audit, other options to having an audit, and various other considerations and aspects of an audit. Cost Allocation Plans: Worshop is designed to describe the importance of developing a plan for allocating costs, to define direct costs and indirect costs, to learn the rules promulgated by OMB A-122, "Cost Priniciples for Nonprofit Organizations", and to take away suggestions for implementing and/or improving the organizations current allocation system. Understanding Internal Controls: Workshop is designed to educate the participants on what the internal control environment is, why it is critical to the integrity of the organization, and how to implement a control system within the organization. We're Tax Exempt; Why Do We File A Tax Return, and How? : Workshop is designed to describe the different nonprofit income tax return forms, discuss which activities of an organization cause income taxes to be due to the IRS, show how to access forms, show how to seek assistance in the form preparation, and explain key elements of the forms. return to top |
