Mission

The mission of the firm of Glenda Y. Hicks, CPA is two-fold. One is to assist nonprofit organizations with CPA services that help them become efficient and effective in their financial management operations. Second, we want to assist all organizations through professional development training, by helping them develop efficient and effective operations that stem from well trained personnel who have a solid foundation in mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional good health through soft skills training.

Glenda Hicks is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the states of Georgia and Florida. She is a graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She is also a graduate of the University of Miami with a Master of Professional Accounting degree and is a Certified Diversity Trainer, with an emphasis on Women’s Issues.

 

Mrs. Hicks is owner of the CPA practice, and has over 20 years of professional experience in business, including accounting and financial reporting, taxation, and human resource management. She has provided several years of consulting services to not-for-profit organizations and their boards and board committees through her CPA practice. Mrs. Hicks is also a former adjunct professor for the Graduate School of Business of the University of Miami.

 

Mrs. Hicks started her career with Coopers & Lybrand, LLP, a former Big 8 CPA firm. While there, she attained the level of Senior Associate. She then joined the management team at the University of Miami as Director of Financial Reporting. Later, she worked as the Controller, then Interim Executive Director of Health Crisis Network, Inc., a non-profit community health service organization.

 

Glenda Hicks possesses a depth and breadth of experience that has carried her services to clients and organizations that are for-profit and not-for-profit, large and small, and that focus on women's issues and positive development of young girls. She is a passionate believer in efficient, effective operations that stem from well trained personnel who have a solid foundation of mental, physical, spiritual and emotional good health.

 

Glenda Hicks has served in a volunteer capacity on the board of non-profit organizations and various committees. She has made presentations to businesses, professional associations, conferences, and community service organizations on an array of subjects including stress management, customer service, affects of Sarbanes –Oxley Act on non-profit organizations, transitioning from school to work, managing money, women in leadership and management, and interviewing skills.

Bruce E. David, MBA — Accounting Manager

Bruce David holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Winthrop University and an MBA degree from Oral Roberts University. He also has a post-graduate certification in Non-Profit Management from Duke University, and is currently pursuing a Master of Accounting degree at Kennesaw State University.

 

Mr. David has over ten years of corporate and non-profit accounting experience, including five years as a Controller. He has worked within the healthcare technology industry and with major non-profit organizations. Mr. David’s accounting experience includes financial statement preparation, financial audits, internal controls, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow analysis, strategic planning, system implementations, accounting policy development, human resources, and tax and legal filings.

 

Mr. David has traveled and studied in Jerusalem, Israel and is a veteran of the United States Air Force. He is committed to all aspects of community development and serves as Treasurer of ITISSO, a non-profit organization whose mission is to assist in the development of character and leadership skills, and to promote academic excellence among at-risk youth. Mr. David is affiliated with the Georgia Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

 

Beryl Marsh Joiner, BA — Firm Administrator

Beryl Marsh Joiner holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga.

 

She has more than 10 years experience in the public and private non-profit community where she has worked with The Georgia Department of Human Services, The Georgia Society of CPA’s. and The Atlanta Union Mission – Women & Children’s’ Shelter. Ms Joiner also has years of experience as a successful small business government contractor for the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid.

 

Ms Joiner enjoys serving in her community. She is currently a member of The Mount Zion – Kennesaw AME Church, a disaster response volunteer with the Northwest-Cobb County American Red Cross and a volunteer of Teela Spiller, Inc., an economic, revitalization and development firm.

 

Allison Bishop — Accounting Intern

Allison Bishop is a student at Kennesaw State University, who will graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in May 2010. Upon graduation she is interested in continuing to work in public accounting and one day combine her degree and her passion for nonprofit organizations by serving in arts administration.

 

Allison serves as Reporter for the Iota Tau chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an honorary organization for accounting, finance and information systems majors. She volunteers at the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art as event marketer, and has volunteered as assistant to the Registrar at the Booth Museum in Cartersville
